The library subscribes to Journal Citation Reports (JCR) which you can access via Web of Science. JCR provides useful bibliometric information about academic journals which you can use to help you evaluate different titles.

To access JCR:

  1. Go to AFBI Library Online > Online databases > Web of Science. Login using your AFBI Library credentials.
  2. Click on JCR at top of screen.
  3. Enter journal name in ‘Go to Journal Profile’ and click on the search icon.

Look at Key Indicators. These include:

  • Journal impact factor: the average number of times article published in the selected journal in the past 2 years have been cited in the selected year .
  • Total cites: the number of times the journal title has appeared in the citations of the articles included in Web of Science
  • Immediacy index: an indication of how quickly, during the year of publication, articles in a given journal are cited by others.
  • Eigenfactor Score:  this was created to help capture the prestige of a journal by taking into account the volume of output alongside journal quality. The sum of all journal scores is 100.
  • Article Influence Score – this measures the average influence, per article, of the papers published in a journal.  The mean Article Influence Score is 1.00.  An Article Influence Score greater than 1.00 indicates that the articles in a journal have an above-average influence.
