Network locations and cloud storage may corrupt Endnote libraries over time. If your library is corrupted, or your PC crashes your Endnote library will be lost if you have not created a back up library stored in a different location. Back up libraries are used to restore references and file attachments to newly installed Endnote libraries. So if your team use a shared Endnote library in this way it is important to have an up-to-date back up library in place.

Follow this plan whenever any significant changes have been made to your library:

1. Go to your EndNote library

2. Click on File and select Compressed Library (.enlx)

3. Select "Create" and “With File Attachments.”

4. Select “All References in Library.” Click Next.

5. Save your Endnote Compressed Library to a location other than your PC or your networked location. This is your back up library.
