You can use Wikipedia to look for definitions of topics, but information on Wikipedia might not be complete or accurate, and you may lose marks for citing Wikipedia in an assignment.

As an alternative, try using Article Search:

Go to the Library homepage.

Click the Article Search tab and type your topic into the search box. Keep your search simple - type one topic at a time (e.g. 'amphibians', not 'frogs newts lizards'). Click Submit.

Article Search results will display - these will consist of full-text articles on the topic you have searched for. However, at the top of the list you may see a Research Starter box. Click More in this box to view a full summary/definition of your topic, derived from a reliable source that you should be able to cite in your assignment (if in doubt, check with your lecturer, tutor or advisor of studies).

Click Cite to the right of the Research Starter box to see how to cite the summary/definition in a number of referencing styles, including Harvard and Vancouver (or click Export to send details into RefWorks).
