What does the message 'Local Copy Available' mean?

You may see the following message when trying to place a request:

'Sorry, request cannot be accepted. Local copy is available'

This message might appear for the reasons listed below:

there may be copies on the shelves which you have missed when looking for the item
there are copies available that are not suitable for you to request
there are copies available that may not be requested at all (for example, short loan material)
there are copies available in another library which you may not be able to visit or access
