What is the Ewart Map Collection? Do I need to make an appointment to see these maps?

Special Collections & Archives holds the Ewart Map Collection which contains approximately 150 original maps and facsimiles of printed and manuscript maps of Ireland; provinces and counties of Ireland; and individual places in Ireland, ca 1567-1900. About 50 of the maps are of Belfast or parts of Belfast, ca. 1570-1900. The Collection also contains town plans, maritime surveys, ordnance survey maps (6 inch), and various railway, canal and road plans.
Information, a listing and some digital copies can be accessed on our Maps web page. As many of these maps are extremely large and require careful handling, you should email specialcollections@qub.ac.uk with details of the maps you wish to consult in advance of your visit; this will enable staff to have the material prepared for you.
