Why are EndNote citations appearing in my Word document in format { ADDIN EN.CITE {ADDIN EN.CITE.DATA }}?

If you add EndNote citations to a Word document and they appear in format { ADDIN EN.CITE {ADDIN EN.CITE.DATA }}, and if your reference list displays as { ADDIN EN.REFLIST }, then the Word document is set to Show field codes instead of their values. This setting might have been inherited from another Word document that you were working on.

To get your EndNote citations and reference list to display correctly, press ALT+F9 (Option+F9 on Mac) on your keyboard to disable the above setting.
