On any occasion where an Inter-Library Loan is believed to have been lost, the Library from which you borrowed it should be contacted immediately.
The British Library charges a minimum of £214.30 for the replacement of items which are long overdue or damaged or lost. The cost is charged to the borrower responsible. This figure is correct as of August 2025 but will increase to £235.70 from 1 October 2025.
Inter-Library Loans that have been supplied from alternative libraries will have varying policies so the charges concerning the replacement of books may differ.
