Some library services supply users with Open Athens passwords to unlock access to online resources such as e-journals and databases.

The Healthcare Library of Northern Ireland uses an alternative system to Open Athens called Shibboleth, which is what enables members to log in to resources via the Library website by entering the membership number and password you receive when you join the Library.

Accessing resources such as e-journals and databases via Google will often result in you being asked for an Open Athens password, because Google doesn't automatically recognise that you are a Healthcare Library member.

Therefore, the best way to access your subscribed resources is via the Healthcare Library website. This will take you to the correct Shibboleth log-in screen, which will look something like the screenshot below. Simply enter your Library number and password to proceed to the resource you wish to access.
