Though definitions vary across its journals, overall Oxford University Press (OUP) defines the corresponding author of a submitted paper as being responsible for: 

  • signing the publishing agreement with OUP 
  • arranging payment of any charges due (in the case of HSC staff, these would be covered by the Library's OUP Read & Publish agreement) 
  • communicating with OUP while the paper is in the process of being published 
  • answering queries about the paper after publication

The corresponding author does not necessarily need to be the author who submits a manuscript to OUP via the relevant journal website. However, a corresponding author must be specified as part of the submission process.
