To download and install EndNote, QUB staff and students should follow the instructions outlined here:

Installing EndNote using the QUB download option in Windows
Installing EndNote using the QUB download option on a Mac

Troubleshooting Common Installation Problems:

  1. Installation Wizard cannot continue because Microsoft Office products are running.

Press CTRL + ALT + Delete and choose Task Manager. Highlight the Office programs (including Teams) and choose the End Task button at the bottom. Retry the EndNote installation process.

  2. EndNote won’t install on Chromebook or iPad.

EndNote desktop is only compatible with Windows and MacOS.  It cannot be installed on Chromebooks and iPads.  Full details of compatibility are available here: https://endnote.com/product-details/compatibility

  3. EndNote is asking for a Product Key during the installation

Ensure that the installation files have been extracted correctly before running the installation process. For full instructions on downloading, extracting and installing EndNote for Windows and Mac, please refer to:

Has the zipped folder been downloaded to OneDrive or cloud storage, rather than the local drive?  Move the zipped folder to ‘Downloads’ or similar on the local PC/laptop, extract the files, then run the installation.

Has a trial version of EndNote been downloaded?  Ensure the links above are used to install the licensed version of EndNote via QUB.

  1. I’ve installed EndNote on my Mac but it won’t open.

If there is an EndNote menu at the top of your Mac's screen, then go to the File Menu, select New, and choose ‘create a library’.

For any other issues, please contact your Subject Librarian and include as much detail as possible (screenshots, description of the problem, your operating system, and your version of Word).
